News Update

May 10/08 updates

Been working on the boat and installing a new graph and overhead TV for the under water camera. Fishing since May 3 for Walleye has been good with some limit catches. See picture above for the average size caught. Been trolling slow with Doctor Death coloured baits in about 20 to 30 feet of water. Pike fishing has been slow but should pick up as the water warms.

December 2007 updates

This is the type of fishing that has been available the last few year starting in the middle of June normally. It is fishing shallow with some lighter tackle. Fished up till the middle of November and the Bass were biting, Walleye was the best year yet and the Pike have seemed to have come back. The boat has been put away for the winter and now working repairing tackle and boat for next year. Wish every one a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and hope you are able to enjoy a days trip for fish in 2008 with me.

October 15/07 updates

Monday was a great day to be fishing on the St. Lawrence River. We boated 18 fish in the morning with 16 being Smallmouth Bass, 1 average size Walleye and a huge 37 inch, 13 pound Northern Pike with a picture above. All fish were caught trolling with downriggers and stick baits. River water is still warm at 62 degrees. As it now looks this great fishing should continue on into Nov. If you are interested in trying this fishing I have a special on now for a party of 2 on the St. Lawrence River out of Brockville. Have not tried the Muskie yet and have not heard of any being taked. Any day now they should go on the feed like the Pike was doing ( notice the big gut ).

October 6/07 updates

Picture of David and Matt with 4 of there 9 Smallmouth Bass caught on Thanksgiving Sunday morning out of Brockville on the St. Lawrence River. Fishing was hard with a strong North East wind making white caps on the river. We were using worms and fishing down 30 to 40 feet in the lee of islands. Water is still warm at 65 degrees but the bass have stared to move to there fall feeding areas. Earlier in the week I was out and getting bass trolling around shoals. The good thing about the weather we are getting Tuesday is the fishing will be getting better as the water will be cooling off.

August 21/07 updates

Picture above is of Justin Massey the winner of the Kids and Cops Fishing Derby in Brockville on the July first long weekend. He and is friend Dillon took his free fishing charter with Chasen Fish Charters this pass weekend out of Brockville. We are catching Smallmouth Bass now to 17 inches using worms and fishing sandy bottoms along weed edges down 25 to 40 feet. If things stay the same as the last couple years the best Bass fishing will be starting in another week or so were Smallmouth to 20 inches are available.

August 21/07 updates

The picture above is of the mouth of the harbour in Port Hope when the wind blows on the lake. You can see how the rollers are coming in and breaking on the bottom making it impossible to get out on the lake. The fishing lately has been good with many Rainbows of good size and Salmon to 18 pounds. Hard pressed to get any real big fish but we are getting quantity. Again this year our best fishing for large Salmon was in the end of June and July. No quantity of Salmon yet staging off the river mouth but it will likely happen in Sept. weather permitting. I will be heading home to the St. Lawrence River next week and will be running my charters there out of Brokville. If you want some good Smallmouth Bass, Musky, Pike and Walleye fishing give me a call or e-mail me at Captain@chasenfish.com.

August 13/07 updates

This is a 24.5 pound ( 1 of 5 ) Salmon caught this morning as the sun was just coming up down 50 feet in 200 plus feet of water using a Pro-Troll flasher and Howie fly behind a dipsy. The last week and today we have had to go deep to find fish and maintain a proper speed so the spoons and flashers were working. Just had to experiment with spoons and flashers of different colors to get the right set up. No fish have yet showed up near shore. If this warm water stays it will be near the end of Aug. before the fish get near shore.

August 6/07 updates

The picture is of the young lad with his first Salmon with his father helping him hold it. Over the last week we have been have good luck fishing 100 feet out to 300 feet plus. A poor day has been 5 fish landed and a good day has been 15 fish. Spoons have been working the best but Pro-Troll flashers and Howie Flies have been taking there share. On calm days the copper setups have have worked for some big Rainbows and the Thumber Rod has stared to produce.. Been getting some bigger Salmon and quite a few Coho`s. Been fishing down as deep as 90 feet to get fish.

July 23/07 updates

The picture above is of a family with there catch for the morning. The water has warmed big time and you have to go off shore now to find temperature that the fish require. We have been down 90 to 100 feet to get the proper temp and spoons have been out fishing the flashers and flies for me. In the Salmon Derby a fish in the high 20 pound range is required to get in the top 10 each week.

July 16/07 updates

Fishing has slowed down a bit and the fish have scattered. Water temperature has been staying between 48 and 55 degrees the last week and bait fish are hard to find. We are still fishing most of the time down 20 feet over 50 to 200 feet. White and chartuse Pro-Troll flashers with Howie Flies and spoons have been working off riggers, wire and copper. Spoon colours vary from day to day so you might as well change them every time you clean your line of flees till you find the right colour.

July 9/07 updates

Over the last week the Salmon have been bitting great on spoons and Flies behind Pro-Troll flashers. Water temperature today was
60 degrees and the Fleas are back. We are now back to checking and cleaning lines every 15 minutes. As the water is warming the
Salmon are starting to scatter to deep water. We had one Salmon today that was 27.32 pounds caught on wire with a Pro-Troll
HotChip flasher and Pretty Jane Howie Fly down 30 feet behind a dipsy diver. That should keep Doug in the top 10 for this week.
The only bad thing is I forgot to take a picture of Doug with the fish.

July 2/07 updates

The picture of the fish above is of one of the 14 Salmon and Rainbows landed yesterday. Fishing was under sunny conditions and
a light to strong north wind. We started at 5:00 AM and the fish were right on the first hour in the morning. Water temperature
was in the mid 40 degrees and fish were in the top 20 feet of water. The hottest bait was a chartuse Pro-Troll flasher and Howie
Fly off copper, lead core and dipsy`s on wire. Remember the Great Ontario Salmon Derby starts next week and if you go on a charter
with me your entery fee is included in the charter price. Have an opening this week available and next. Also some openings in Aug.

June 25/07 updates

Starting this weekend the Salmon showed up. Surface water temp has gone down to 40 degrees and you have to go looking for the fish as they have scattered. Fishing the top 20 feet has been working for me with Pro-Troll flasher and flies run off the wire dipsy`s and copper lines. Spoons have been working off the riggers. The fish above was in the high teens and hit the chartuse flasher and fly off the lead core set up. The last couple of days we were getting equal number of Salmon and Rainbows.

June 18/07 updates

Just got started fishing here in Port Hope and the rainbows are hitting good. The picture above is of one of them caught on a Pro-Troll flasher and fly. Water temperature has been in the high 50 degrees and the Rainbows are coming off the riggers and wire down 20 feet in 60 feet of water.

June 5/07 updates

Just back from our annual fishing trip to Rufus Lake Outfitters ( rufuslakeoutfitters.com )near Kapuskasing. Thanks Rick and Linda for another great year. Fishing was great and walleye were of a better size. The largest Pike was 40 inches caught by Terry.
The Salmon and Rainbows are just now showing up at Port Hope and by the middle of the month they should be right on.
I will be there about the 19 of June with openings still available.

May 22/07 updates

A picture of Doug with one of the many Walleye we caught this early May fishing on the St. Lawrence River. We were dragging Mann`s 20 and Reef Runner deep divers purchased from "Dad`s Gone Fishing Live Bait and Tackle". It was one of the best early May fishing I have seen in years on the river. It is a good sign that the river is coming back. Lots of green slim floating in the water and that did not seem to stop the fish. All you had to do was set your line up so the slim would not slid down to your bait.
Heading the end of the week on our annual fishing trip to Kapuskasing to fish Walleye and Pike out of Rufus Lake Outfitters for a week. When I return I will be home a week and then heading to Port Hope for Salmon and Trout fishing for the summer.

End of June and First of July 2006 updates

Over the last few year we have been having some great fishing for Rainbows and Salmon starting about the middle of June. The above picture shows a limit catch of fish on June 27 2006. Normally we will be close to shore and fishing in the top 30 feet of water. The water is usually in the high 50`s to low 60`s. We use a different presentation at this time of year and when the fish get hooked you are into some great action. It is cool on the water at this time of year and a jack is required. If you would like to try this out I am available 7 days a week to take you. Hope you can make it in 2007 as I do not want to have to catch them all myself. See you this early summer.

November 28/06 updates

The fish above was caught aboard the Fish Doctor, Captained by Ernie Lantiegne with his client holding it.

First of all I would like to thank Ernie Lantiegne of Fish Doctor Charters and Bob Walters of Water Wolf Charters for taking me Musky fishing this fall.

Of the 4 days we fished they had 3 muskie boated, saw one on the camera and had one hit. Picture above is one of the muskies boated off the Fish Doctor fishing out of Clayton N.Y..

The Bass fishing again this fall was good with larger bass being caught. Walleye were down.

Will be putting the boat away this week for the winter and remember if you want to catch Rainbows and early Salmon think about a charter in the mid June to early July time frame.

Hope to see you next year.

September 16/06 updates

Was able to take the winner of the Fishing Charter draw from the Children`s Fishing Derby ( Search For Perch Kids, Cops & Fishing ) at Riverfest out Sat. Riley Carriere being the winner brought his good friend Stephen Liscumb along. They caught lots of Smallmouth Bass and some Perch. The picture above is of Stephen with a 20 inch Smallmouth Bass which was the largest and Riley caught a 17 inch Smallmouth Bass which was the second largest.

The Bass this fall are running larger than normally which means there was lots of food available and good water temperatures this summer. The river temp right now is about what it normally is the middle of Oct. Have been fishing with worms and anywhere from 20 feet down to 50 feet.

If you would like to try this out just give me a call and I will arrange it.

August 18/06 updates

The Great Ontario Salmon Derby is into its last week. If you were able to take advantage of it you will know how good the fishing was this summer. The fishing has been the best its been in many years. They have stayed away from the harbour mouth making the fishing a lot more enjoyable ( no heavy boat traffic ). For me ProChip and HotChip`s by Pro-Troll has been the best producer. Also getting some good catches off certain spoons behind a dipsy.

July 31/06 updates

The picture above is of the group from Dad`s Gone Fishing Live Bait and Tackle ( Brockville ) of there catch on Sun. July 23 / 06.
The best part of this report is the fishing just got better as the week when on. On Friday we had 12 Kings and 3 were over 29 lbs. Sat. and Sun. we had 15 Kings and Rainbows each day.
The fish have been hitting Howie flies behind Pro Chip`s and Hot Chip`s by Pro-Troll with the EChip. Some spoons have been working at times. The fish are coming off the rigger`s, dipsy`s and copper sit ups.
To be in the top 10 each week of the great Ontario Salmon Derby you need a 32 lb. plus fish.
We should see a fish over 40 lbs. this derby and sure would like it to come off my boat CHASEN FISH.

July 11/06 updates

Salmon are bitting on Pro-Chip and flies along with spoons. Surface temperature is rising and sending fish deeper. Fleas are here and keeps you bessy cleaning lines. Some big fish are being caught for the Salmon Derby with a 37.90 pound leading at present. Fishing is as good as the last 2 years.

June 29/06 updates

Picture of the Gentile brothers catch on a rainy Tuesday morning this week. We had Salmon, Rainbows, Cohos and one Brown Trout all from the same area. They were hitting ProChip flashers and flies and spoons off the riggers and thumper rod. We were fishing down 30 to 50 feet. The new hydraulic steering and Auto Pilot sure makes it easy as you never have to go to the steering wheel when you are working at the back of the boat. It is just like having a extra man on board to steer for me.

There is still some opening this coming week.

If you would like to get in on the best fishing we have had in a long time, phone 613-213-4071

June 25/06 updates

Salmon showed up a few days ago and now we are catching equal numbers of Salmon and Rainbows. Surface water is now to 60 degrees. They are hitting ProChip flashers and flies and certain colours of different spoons. Have had Salmon to 25 pounds and Rainbows to 12 pounds. Some dates avaiable this week and the next and then the Great Ontario Salmon Derby starts.

June 18/06 updates

The last week I have been fishing out of Port Hope and the Rainbows have been right on. The picture above is of one of the many that were landed fishing anywhere to 150 feet. Spoons have been the best producers fished down 24 feet with lead core and yellow birds. The warmest temperature I could find was 50 degrees. Will be back after them come Thursday for the rest of the summer. The odd Salmon are just starting to show up but are scattered. Check back each week for updates.
